MOVING TIPS

Moving Tips

  • 2-4 weeks or as soon as you know the date you would like to move, call your chosen LICENSED & INSURED moving company to book your move.

  • Purchase packing supplies, such as packing boxes, tape, and packing paper or bubble wrap. Buy stickers or red markers to flag fragile items, and black markers to label other boxes.

  • Clean out the closets, attic space and any other hidden spaces that haven’t been touched in a while.

  • Have a garage sale to get rid of your unwanted items, Donate or recycle any items you cannot or do not want to sell.

  • Discard items that need discarding.

  • Begin packing early. It is important to pack properly. Ask our specialists how to build a box and pack a box. Packing is time consuming, have a friend or family member help you if you are alone. If you are an entire family, include the children. Let them fill a couple boxes with toys.

  • Schedule disconnect times for cable, phone, and utilities about a week before your move day, and then make sure utilities in your new home will be turned on by the time you move in.

  • Make sure the moving company and everyone else associated with coordinating or helping you move has your cell phone number. At some point, your land line will be disconnected in between the changing of homes.

  • Wait to pack your cleaning supplies (broom, dust cloth, mop, etc.) until you’ve done your last cleanup—especially if you have a security deposit. Don’t forget to clean your stove and defrost the fridge!

  • Dispose of any items that moving companies are not allowed to transport by law. These items include gasoline, bottled gases and other flammables, ammunition, and explosives.

  • File a change of address at the post office about a week before your move.

  • Arrange for pets and children to be with a friend or babysitter while the move is taking place.

  • If you live in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Westwood, Brentwood, Larchmont Village or any similar city that requires a parking permit you have the option to your city hall to obtain a moving permit for the truck to park in front of your residence. We can also go to City Hall for you to obtain the permits. The choice is yours

  • Don’t leave the hardware to your furniture at your old place. When you take something apart, put all the little parts and screws in a bag. Then tape the bag to the piece, so you won’t have to track down the parts.

  • 2-5 days prior to your scheduled moving date, confirm your move with your chosen moving company.

  • On the day of your move be sure to walk through every room of your home before the movers leave. Make sure nothing was left behind, open every door and open every drawer.

  • Let the movers place your belongings where you want them. As they bring the items from the truck, let them know which room each item/ box goes into.

  • Make sure you lock up your old place and have the keys to your new home!
